The Ogun State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyalist and chieftain, Chief Segun Sowunmi yesterday bowed to pressure from party faithful to declare his intention to run for the Governorship race in the 2023 elections.
Party faithful from 20 local government areas of the state converged in Abeokuta to pull their support for the PDP chieftain, Segun Showunmi, as he joined the race for governorship in 2023.
Members of opposition, led by the State Chairman of IPAC, Samson Ogunsanya, were at the venue to give their support.
Ogunsanya who was flanked by the National Publicity Secretary of Labour Party (LP), Abayomi Arabambi and the Chairman of Mega Party (MP), Moshood Adesina.
He emphasized that if the PDP must make any appreciable impact in Ogun State, Sowunmi must be adopted as the Governorship candidate of the party.
“As the umbrella body of the opposition parties in Ogun State, we are here to show our support for our brother, Segun Sowunmi. He is a politician with an enviable track record. We believe that he has the capacity to deliver Ogun State from backwardness of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Sowunmi, in his response appreciated all political leaders in PDP, especially in South West,and those who have ruled the state on the flag of the party.
He blamed the inability of the PDP to win the Governorship seat in the past elections, to fracas in the party, and urged all members of the party to jettison their personal interest and work for the progress of the party.
Sowunmi said, “All our (PDP) efforts has not produced any result for some time and the main reason is the unnecessary infighting.
“The business of governance of cutting tape to commission roads is not what we are talking about here, Obafemi Awolowo’s vision for Yoruba nation will now come to be improved, rewritten and expanded.”
