In a bid to curb the increasing menace of vandalism, energy theft and the assaults on officials of the company in Ogun state, the Management of Ibadan Electricity Company is partnering with the Department of State Security (DSS) to curb the illicit acts.
The Regional Head of IBEDC in Ogun, Engineer Abdulrasaq Jimoh during a courtesy visit to the Director of the agency in the state on Thursday 1st February 2024 on a quest for their cooperation and a good working relationship, lamented the challenges the company is battling, particularly with customer’s apathy to payment even sometimes by some Security agencies.
He re-evaluated the electricity value chain and how IBEDC is only limited to distributing the restricted allocations from the grid.
Nevertheless, the company is working round the clock with other members of the electricity value chain to find means of improving supply for the comfort of customers.
Despite this efforts, he added that “some unscrupulous elements are fond of vandalizing our equipment/installations, harassing and assaulting our staff and worse still, is the increase in the rate of energy theft through illegal connection, tampering of meters etc. by many customers.”
The director of DSS, Mrs Folasade Arinola Adekaiyaoja with her Deputy, Alhaji Ali appreciated IBEDC ‘s acknowledgement of necessary working relationship with DSS and promised the support of the agency as at when required by IBEDC.
The DSS director further reiterated the importance of driving company’s business with data as actual details and accuracy of information is necessary to avoid financial leakages and disparities in information.
