The Ogun State Police Command has assured residents of Ajebo community in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area that there is no credible threat to public safety, following a viral social media video alleging an imminent attack by herdsmen.
In response to the concerns raised, the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, deployed a tactical team led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations) to conduct an on-the-ground security assessment. The team worked alongside operatives of the Amotekun Corps, So-Safe Corps, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), local hunters, and the Vigilante Group of Nigeria (VGN) to gather intelligence within Ajebo and its surrounding areas.
Their investigation revealed that the Fulani settlers in the community are long-standing, peaceful residents—not recent or hostile entrants. Officers observed women and children in makeshift shelters and found no weapons or suspicious activity. The absence of adult men in the camp was attributed to their routine trading trips to Oyo State. A broader sweep of the area also uncovered an extended RUGA settlement reportedly established more than a decade ago.
As part of the ongoing inquiry, the traditional ruler, Oba Rueben Oluwole—who is said to have approved the land allocation to the settlers—has been invited for clarification. The Baale of Alapako, where another cluster of Fulani huts is located, has likewise been summoned for a meeting with the Commissioner of Police.
Security agencies continue to maintain surveillance in the forest area about 10 kilometres from Ajebo. Their deployment, the Command noted, is purely precautionary given that the settlers were found to be unarmed and living peacefully.
The Ogun State Police Command urges residents to remain calm and vigilant and to refrain from circulating unverified information that could generate unnecessary fear or tension.
