The Progressive Governors’ Forum (PGF) has issued a strong vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, declaring full support for his Renewed Hope Agenda and endorsing his anticipated 2027 re-election bid.
The endorsement followed a high-level meeting of PGF members and APC stakeholders in Lagos, hosted by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Speaking after the meeting, PGF Chairman and Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, said the decision reflects the Forum’s satisfaction with the President’s leadership and the impact of his reforms across priority sectors.
Twelve governors were present, including Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, and counterparts from Kebbi, Edo, Ekiti, Ondo, Sokoto, Akwa Ibom, Delta, Enugu, Kaduna, and Katsina.
In a communiqué issued at the end of the meeting, the Forum reviewed Nigeria’s political, economic and security landscape. The governors reiterated that all reforms under the Tinubu administration must translate into improved welfare and increased opportunities for Nigerians in both rural and urban areas. They commended the President’s efforts in stabilising the economy, enhancing national security and setting a foundation for sustainable development.
Acknowledging rising living costs, the Forum praised Nigerians for their resilience and pledged to intensify interventions in food production, job creation, social protection and support for small and medium enterprises. They also promised to align state policies with federal reforms to ensure widespread benefits.
On security, the governors highlighted improved synergy among security agencies and committed to strengthening local security systems, community policing initiatives, intelligence gathering and assistance to victims. They urged leaders nationwide to promote unity and discourage hate speech and criminality.
The Forum emphasised the need for robust local governance and vowed to enhance transparency and service delivery at the grassroots. To deepen citizen engagement, they resolved to hold consultations with traditional rulers, religious leaders, civil society groups, labour unions, youth and women’s organisations.
Reaffirming loyalty to the APC, the PGF pledged continued support for efforts to entrench internal democracy, party cohesion and inclusiveness. They reiterated their role as custodians of the people’s mandate and partners in driving national development.
The governors expressed renewed optimism about Nigeria’s future, urging citizens to remain calm, go about their activities without fear and support the Renewed Hope Agenda. They also extended early Christmas and New Year wishes to Nigerians.
During the stakeholder session, Governor Uzodimma encouraged party members to take President Tinubu’s achievements to the grassroots ahead of the 2027 elections.
