ABEOKUTA — The National Rescue Movement (NRM) governorship candidate in Ogun State for the 2027 election, Chief Amb. Olujobi Ezekiel Fayoyin, has unveiled his development agenda for the state, with food security, youth empowerment, healthcare and accountable governance identified as key priorities.
Fayoyin disclosed his plans while featuring on Politics Naija, a weekly political magazine programme on TungbaFM, where he spoke on his vision and proposed policies for Ogun State if elected governor in 2027.
The NRM candidate said his administration would place agriculture and mass food production at the centre of its economic strategy, noting that the move would help address food insecurity, create jobs and boost the state’s economy.
According to him, Ogun possesses vast arable land, a youthful population and a strong entrepreneurial base capable of making the state a major food-producing hub if its resources are effectively harnessed.
Fayoyin also highlighted youth development as a major component of his proposed administration, arguing that young people require more than political promises to thrive.
He said his government would focus on practical skills acquisition, employment opportunities, entrepreneurship and other initiatives capable of engaging young people productively and reducing their vulnerability to social and economic challenges.
On healthcare, the NRM candidate promised to pursue a system that would make quality medical services accessible to residents across the state.
He particularly proposed universal health insurance coverage for Ogun residents, stressing that access to healthcare should be regarded as a fundamental component of good governance rather than a privilege reserved for those who can afford it.
Fayoyin further advocated a new approach to governance based on accountability, responsibility and service to the people.
He maintained that elected officials should be assessed based on their ability to deliver tangible improvements in the lives of citizens rather than political rhetoric or campaign promises.
The candidate also urged Ogun voters to reject the practice of exchanging their votes for money during elections.
While acknowledging that financial inducements may provide immediate relief to individuals, Fayoyin argued that vote-buying ultimately weakens citizens’ ability to demand accountability and good governance from elected leaders.
He therefore encouraged voters to consider the competence, character, track record, vision and development plans of candidates before casting their ballots in the 2027 election.
Fayoyin described the NRM as a credible alternative for Ogun voters seeking a different political direction, saying the party represents an opportunity to build a government focused on the welfare and development of the people.
He called on residents, particularly youths, professionals, farmers, entrepreneurs and other stakeholders, to take an active role in the political process and support leaders capable of providing practical solutions to the challenges confronting the state.
As political activities ahead of the 2027 election continue to intensify, Fayoyin said his proposed agenda would focus on building an Ogun State that can feed its people, create opportunities for its youths, provide accessible healthcare and ensure that government remains accountable to the electorate.
