The management of the Federal Medical Centre Idi-Aba Abeokuta has debunked media reports making the rounds that it excluded the institution’s Nurses from the 2023 promotion exercise.
In a release signed by the Public Relations Officer of the medical facility, Segun Orisajo vehemently denied the story which it viewed as a calculated attempt to mislead the reading members of the public and drag the good name of the hospital in the mud.
Rather than what the writers of the baseless reports would want the public to belief, Orisajo said the Nurses’ agitation within the hospital premises was to call on the Management to look into how some of their colleagues who were not promoted could be assisted.
The Chairman of the hospital’s NANNM quoted in the media reports couldn’t be demanding for ” papers of the promotion examination which the hospital claimed the Nurses failed” if they had not sat for the promotion examination.
At an interactive meeting of all staff with the hospital management later in the day, the Medical Director , Prof Adewale Musa-Olomu took time to explain his personal efforts supported by verifiable evidences to secure an hundred percent promotion for his staff before the panel from Abuja ,but couldn’t sail through due to some regimented established civil service procedures guiding promotions.
He however pledged to take up the issue of staff who were not promoted to the Hon.Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare for his intervention.
Reacting to the shortage of manpower, especially Doctors and Nurses, the Medical Director gave an assurance that once the administrative bottlenecks are resolved, the One hundred Doctors and hundred Nurses over which a waiver had been obtained will resume work.
On the Nurses’ uniform allowance, the Medical Director disclosed that the management, despite its huge financial obligations and constraints will ensure the payment of the allowance to the entire Nurses within the next two months.
Prof Musa-Olomu announced to the jubilant staff, welfare package that will be disbursed to each member’s accounts within the month of January.
Besides, he also informed the staff that the management has intention to procure some Coaster staff buses as a way of reducing the heavy transportation burden on the staff over the fuel subsidy removal.
