Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has called for calm ahead of the August 16 by-election into the Remo Federal Constituency, warning that his administration will not hesitate to take decisive action against anyone attempting to disrupt the process.
Speaking at the All Progressives Congress (APC) campaign rally in Ogijo, Sagamu Local Government Area, on Tuesday, Abiodun stressed that the election is a democratic exercise, not a battle. He reminded residents that the poll is meant to elect a successor to the late Adewunmi Oriyomi Onanuga, who represented the constituency in the House of Representatives.
“I have heard that some people are issuing threats; we will not take this lightly,” the governor said. “Anyone who causes trouble on Saturday will face the full weight of the law. As the Chief Security Officer of Ogun State, I assure you that no threat against you will succeed. This election is about representation, not violence.”
Abiodun emphasized the importance of continuity in governance, describing the APC candidate, Hon. Adesola Elegbeji, as an intelligent, calm, and capable leader who will continue the legacy of the late Hon. Onanuga, fondly called ‘Ijaya’. He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the development of Ogijo, a strategic border town in the state.
