In a bold move to strengthen its industrial base and advance clean energy adoption, the Ogun State Government has signed a landmark partnership with two leading Renewable Energy Service Companies (RESCOs) to generate approximately 1,100 megawatts (MW) of solar power.
The two companies — Tranos Contracting Limited and Vision Gas and Power Limited — are set to establish large-scale solar panel manufacturing and battery assembly plants within the state. Tranos will develop a 600MW solar panel and battery pack plant, while Vision Gas and Power will establish a 500MW solar manufacturing facility, with potential expansion to 1 gigawatt (GW) capacity.
The agreement was formalized in Abuja under the auspices of Vice President Kashim Shettima, representing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, during the Nigeria Renewable Energy Innovation Forum (NREIF) 2025, which runs from October 14–15 at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel.
According to a statement by Kayode Akinmade, Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Media and Strategy, the forum — convened by the Federal Ministry of Power in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), and the Alliance for Rural Electrification (ARE) — serves as Nigeria’s premier platform for driving renewable energy manufacturing and local content development.
Held under the theme, “Implementing the Nigeria First Policy: Facilitating Local Content Development and Manufacturing in the Renewable Energy Ecosystem (NREIF 2025),” the forum brings together global investors, policy makers, and industry leaders to shape the future of Nigeria’s renewable energy landscape.
“These partnerships will spotlight Ogun State as a hub of innovation, industrial readiness, and inclusive growth, while reinforcing our commitment to economic diversification and environmental sustainability,” the statement noted.
Akinmade further emphasized that by expanding local capacity for clean energy production, Ogun State is reducing dependence on imports, creating jobs, and positioning itself as a model of sustainable industrial development in Nigeria.
