The Ogun State Police Command has dismissed a wave of misleading “security tips” currently circulating on social media, warning that many of the posts are fabricated to create unnecessary fear and tension within the State.
A particularly deceptive message, shared alongside the photograph of the Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo, PhD, was singled out by the Command as unauthorized, misleading, and not issued or approved by any police authority.
According to the Command, some individuals have also resorted to recycling old videos, posting alarming narratives, and using divisive language to distort public perception and suggest an exaggerated security threat. These actions, the police stressed, are deliberate attempts to cause panic among residents.
The Command cautioned those responsible to immediately stop circulating frightening videos, voice notes, or unverified claims, many of which have been confirmed to be false.
Reassuring the public, the Ogun State Police emphasized that the situation across the State remains stable. Areas highlighted by concerned community members are already under strict monitoring, with the deployment of additional personnel and resources to bolster safety.
Residents and stakeholders are urged to remain calm, stay informed through verified channels, and avoid sharing unconfirmed information that could undermine public peace.
