The media entrepreneur and aging advocate, Olamilekan Jaji has taken the advocacy for graceful aging to the Olowu of Owu kingdom, His Royal Majesty Oba (Prof) Saka Matemilola during a courtesy visit on Tuesday.
Jaji, who authored several literatures for the elderly including; Beyond Old Age, Surviving Old Age, Beautiful Old Age, Older Adults and Suicide, and Ageing For You and Me.
One of the literature, Ageing For You and Me was launched at a public lecture on mental health of senior citizens in Abeokuta a week ago.
The author presented the launched publication to the monarch during the visit for royal blessings.
The Olowu of Owu, Oba (Prof) Saka Matemilola was delighted to receive the publication, saying it will help people to see reasons why they ought to plan for their old age.
The monarch expressed deep concern on the level of increase in inappropriate life style and the resultant effects on later days of senior citizens.
He said,” it is very disheartening that our reading culture has been destroyed. Such a literature should be a blessing to everyone, not just a senior or adult. But it’s unfortunate that people hardly read anymore. The position of old age is waiting for all of us as long as we are alive.”
The author sought for the support of the royal father to take the advocacy message to the people of Owu Kingdom and environs. He also promised to come up with mental health talks and hang out for elderly people soon.
