The Ogun State Government has dismissed as false a viral social media message claiming that Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun is offering a ₦20,000 Youth Empowerment Cash Transfer through an online registration link.
In a statement issued by the Special Adviser on Information and Strategy to the Governor, Hon. Kayode Akinmade, the government described the message as a fraudulent scheme designed by criminals to deceive unsuspecting members of the public.
According to the statement, there is no ₦20,000 youth empowerment cash transfer programme being implemented by the Ogun State Government, stressing that the online link being circulated is not affiliated with the state government or the Office of the Governor.
The government accused unscrupulous individuals of exploiting the name and image of Governor Dapo Abiodun to perpetrate fraud, warning residents against falling victim to the scam.
It advised members of the public not to click on the link, submit personal or banking information, or forward the message to others, noting that doing so could expose them to financial fraud and identity theft.
“The Ogun State Government urges residents to disregard the fake message in its entirety and rely only on information released through the official communication channels of the government,” the statement read.
The government also disclosed that security agencies have been alerted to investigate those responsible for the fraudulent message and ensure they are brought to justice.
Residents were urged to remain vigilant and verify all government announcements through official platforms before responding to any online offers or empowerment claims.
