The Independent National Electoral Commission have postponed the Saturday 11th 2023 Governorship election all over the country.
The postponement was announced yesterday night by the Commission chairman, Professor Mahmud Yakubu in Abuja after a meeting held at close door.
Prof Yakubu explained that the postponement will enable the commission to reconfigure the Bimodal Voters Authentication System (BVAS) for better performance in the governorship election.
Reactions are coming from different quarters condemning the sudden postponement, and likely manipulation from politicians.
Chief Odejimi from Ayetoro who spoke with out correspondence said,” INEC ought to have done that before now, it’s almost 10 days ago that the presidential election was conducted. This postponement is to the advantage of the ruling party.”
Madam Ayoola, a PDP chieftain in Abeokuta North said the postponement will enable the commission to do everything possible to prevent manipulation as we experienced in the last election. It’s a good development.”
Dr Ademola, educationist from Ado Odoota said the postponement will only extend the hardship in the country, as many were looking forward to the end of the electioneering process to regulate so many things. He added that,”the cashless policy and and continue long queue at the bank was due to electioneering and silence of CBN governor, we are waiting for the end of the process to have a relief. This postponement means we need to wait for a longer time.”
Bolaji Ajayi, a business owner in the state capital said,”we can’t wait to see another set of leadership in our nation. I believe the postponement is to have a credible election.”
