Leadership changes swept through the Nigeria Customs Service on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, as Deputy Comptroller O.O. Afeni handed over the Ogun I Area Command to DC A.A. Ibrahim before immediately assuming office as the Acting Customs Area Controller for the Federal Operations Unit (FOU) Zone ‘A’ in Lagos.
During his ten-month tenure in Ogun I, Afeni reported major gains in enforcement and revenue. The command generated ₦896.5 million between January and August 2026, surpassing its ₦545.3 million target. Anti-smuggling operations yielded 327 seizures with a cumulative Duty Paid Value (DPV) of ₦14.75 billion, including 11,578 bags of foreign rice, thousands of liters of petroleum products, and large quantities of cannabis and weaponry. Export trade also rebounded, moving 31,177 metric tons of goods valued at ₦4.64 billion.

Assuming command, incoming Ogun I CAC DC A.A. Ibrahim pledged to maintain a strict stance against economic sabotage while fostering open collaboration with border stakeholders and host communities.
Later the same day in Ikeja, Afeni formally took over FOU Zone ‘A’ as its 30th Acting Comptroller from outgoing Comptroller Gambo Aliyu. Aliyu reported a successful tenure marked by 779 seizures valued at ₦13.08 billion—representing nearly 800% of the unit’s annual revenue target. Upon taking the helm, Afeni promised intelligence-led enforcement, stronger inter-agency cooperation, and a prioritization of officer welfare.
