The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and the Nigerian Army have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening inter-agency collaboration in the fight against drug abuse and illicit trafficking in Ogun State.
This was disclosed on Monday when the Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General F.O. Onu, paid a familiarization visit to the Ogun State Command of the NDLEA headquarters in Abeokuta.
Speaking during the visit, Brigadier General Onu said the engagement was aimed at reinforcing the existing relationship between the Nigerian Army and the NDLEA, while also providing an opportunity to acquaint himself with the command’s operations.
He noted that sustained cooperation among security agencies remains essential in tackling drug-related crimes and curbing the activities of illicit drug traffickers across the state.
The brigade commander expressed appreciation to the NDLEA leadership for the warm reception and reiterated the Nigerian Army’s commitment to supporting efforts aimed at reducing drug abuse and trafficking.
In his remarks, the Ogun State Commander of the NDLEA, Commander Tijjani Rabe, welcomed the visit and described it as a significant step towards enhancing collaboration between both agencies.
Rabe stressed that effective partnerships among security organisations are critical to addressing the growing challenges posed by drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking, which he said continue to threaten public safety and security.
According to him, drug trafficking and substance abuse are major drivers of violent crimes, making it imperative for security agencies to adopt a unified and intelligence-driven approach to enforcement and crime prevention.
The NDLEA commander also used the occasion to engage Brigadier General Onu on practical measures to strengthen operational coordination, improve intelligence sharing, and sustain joint enforcement operations across Ogun State.
As part of the visit, Brigadier General Onu presented a symbolic memento to Commander Rabe, underscoring the cordial relationship between both institutions.
The visit concluded with a photograph session involving officers of the NDLEA and the Nigerian Army.
The renewed partnership is expected to further bolster ongoing efforts to combat drug-related offences and improve security across Ogun State.
