…receives award from Northern students
The Chief Executive Officer of Pelican Valley Nigeria Ltd, Dr. Babatunde Adeyemo yesterday celebrated his birthday with inmates in Ibara Correctional Center, Abeokuta, Ogun State with a friendly football match.
The famous Real Estate manager also used the opportunity to give food items, cash donations to the correctional center as part of corporate social responsibility of his company.
Dr Babatunde while addressing the inmates at the correctional service hinted that he chose to celebrate his birthday with the inmates to encourage them not to feel downcast because of where they are, but to encourage them not to give up on God.
While addressing media men, the Deputy Correctional center DCC James Ogunmoyede said that, “after Senator Ibikunle Amosun who came in January to donate to the inmates, the Pelican boss is the first individual to visit the correctional home and donate materials.”
He however appealed to individuals to emulate the kind gesture of Dr Adeyemo not to neglect the inmates because of their present situation but to also move to encourage them.
Also Dr. Adeyemo has also initiated moves to restore electricity to Ijeun Arobiologbo and Arowa, two communities in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area of Ogun State that has been in darkness for about 60 years.
The company signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the representatives of the communities to connect them with electricity using its transformer that serves its estate located about 200 metres away from them.
Dr Adeyemo announced that he decided to undertake the task of connecting the beneficiaries to the national grid as part of the firm’s corporate social responsibility to mark his birthday.
He hinted the first phase of the intervention would give 20 houses access to electricity while others would be accommodated in subsequent phases.
The Baale of Ijeun Arobiologbo, Chief Rasheed Odewale, and Baale of Arowa, Chief Akeem Raheem in a separate remark commended the firm for coming to the rescue of the communities.
Later in the day, Dr Adeyemo was also honored with an award by some Northern Students Association of Nigeria for his contribution to Nigeria development. The group also commended his efforts in youth development.
