The Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) has assured residents of improved service delivery as its management and newly inaugurated Board Members met to chart a new course for the agency.
The senior officer in charge of TRACE, Commander Elias Omonayajo, received the Board Members during a courtesy visit to the agency’s headquarters at the Old OGTV Complex, Ajebo Road, Abeokuta.
Omonayajo expressed appreciation to Governor Dapo Abiodun for setting up the Board to strengthen oversight and improve efficiency in traffic management across the state. He briefed the delegation on TRACE’s 24-hour operations across the 18 major traffic corridors of Ogun, in line with the law establishing the agency in 2005 (amended in 2007).
While outlining challenges confronting the agency, Omonayajo identified inadequate manpower, shortage of operational tools, insufficient insurance coverage, and the absence of a permanent headquarters as pressing concerns. He commended the Governor for approving fresh recruitment into the agency but appealed for more support to boost operational capacity.
In his response, the Chairman of the Board, Hon. Abeeb Ajayi, thanked the Governor for fulfilling his promise on recruitment. He explained that the Board was constituted to provide guidance, oversight, and strategic direction for TRACE, as well as to foster collaboration with relevant stakeholders.
Ajayi assured that the identified challenges would be tabled before the Governor and promised that a joint committee would be established to mobilize resources for the construction of TRACE’s permanent site. He also charged TRACE operatives to be diligent and committed, assuring them of government’s support in providing the tools needed for effective service delivery.
The Director of Administration and Supplies, Alhaji Abubakar Adeduntan, updated the gathering on the ongoing recruitment exercise, noting that shortlisted candidates would soon meet with the Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo, during a formal interactive session.
The Board Chairman was accompanied on the visit by Mr. Rasheed Opaleye, Hon. Lawrence Oladipo (JP), Chief Olude Olaotan, Hon. Olusegun Bankole, Hon. Whepeboji Zinsu, Barr. Olumide Oduwole, Prince Bankole Akanbi, Hon. Babatunde Allani (JP), and Elder Sunday Akinyemi (JP).
