Sons and daughters of the Owu Kingdom on Sunday, September 20, 2026, gathered at the Palace to celebrate the 2026 Annual Yam Festival, an event that showcased the rich cultural heritage, traditions and communal values of the kingdom.
The festival, organised by the Obamogbo Dynasty under the leadership of Oba Ezekiel Oketoto, the Obamogbo of Owu-Imogbo, brought together members of the Owu community in an atmosphere of cultural pride, thanksgiving and prayers for the kingdom.
A major highlight of the celebration was the presentation of the Ìsan, a woven stick regarded as an important symbol in Owu tradition.
The Ìsan presented during the ceremony carried markings representing the years of the reign of the monarch. Beyond its physical appearance, the traditional object was described as a symbol of durability, honour, longevity and prosperity for the throne and the people of Owu.
Speaking on the significance of the occasion, the monarch expressed appreciation for the opportunity to celebrate the festival alongside sons and daughters of Owu Kingdom, describing the presentation of the Ìsan as one of the most cherished moments of the celebration.
Prayers were also offered for continued peace, unity and prosperity across Owu Kingdom, Egbaland, Ogun State and Nigeria.
The annual yam festival once again provided an opportunity for the Owu people to celebrate their heritage while strengthening bonds of unity and preserving cultural practices for future generations.
The celebration ended with a renewed expression of hope for the continued progress and prosperity of the kingdom.
