Members of the YAYI Ni Wura Alliance Movement (Y.A.M.) have declared their support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the governorship ambition of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as YAYI, in Ogun State ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The group made its position known on Thursday at a press briefing in Ogun State, where it also announced plans to mobilise support for candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) across the state.

Speaking at the event, the Director of Media and Publicity of the movement, Comrade Wasiu Adekunle Adejumo, popularly known as Westo, said the alliance was made up of members and former members of different political parties, including the APC, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and African Democratic Congress (ADC).

According to him, members decided to come together under the YAYI Ni Wura platform because of their support for the policies and political aspirations of Senator Adeola and President Tinubu.

“We were initially on the side of the opposition party. Some of us from APC, PDP, some of us are from ADC,” Adejumo said.

He explained that many members previously belonged to a group associated with the current PDP senatorial candidate, but chose to realign politically in support of YAYI and President Tinubu.

Also speaking, the Ogun State Coordinator of the movement, Comrade Akeem Shodiya, said the organisation was established to canvass votes for YAYI, President Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.

Shodiya described the movement as a sociopolitical organisation open to members of opposition parties across Ogun State.

“We have made our decision. We have chosen our direction, we are open to all, and we want everyone to support this movement,” he said.

Group Highlights YAYI’s Senate Record

Adejumo also praised Senator Adeola’s record as a lawmaker, particularly his role as Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation.

He claimed that Adeola had attracted more development to Ogun State in less than four years than some governors had been able to achieve in eight years.

As part of its activities in support of the senator, the group cited a medical outreach organised at the State Hospital, Ijaye, among its empowerment programmes.

The alliance also expressed support for President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, citing ongoing infrastructure projects and economic reforms as areas it believes deserve continued support.

While acknowledging that the President was “not perfect,” Adejumo said the administration was addressing areas requiring attention.

Alliance Criticises Opposition Figures

The group also criticised leading opposition politicians, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi.

Adejumo questioned their suitability to lead the country and criticised Obi over what he described as inconsistencies in his policy positions and public presentation.

“We support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and we support all APC candidates in Ogun State, from Senator YAYI… to Senator Salisu, who is also contesting for the seat of Senate in Ogun Central. We support Olumide Osoba; we support all APC candidates across the state. We say no to Atiku, Obi. We are tired of their inconsistency and irrationality,” he said.

The comments represented the political position of the alliance at the briefing.

Support for Abiodun’s Administration

The group also commended Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun, particularly for what it described as efforts to continue projects initiated by previous administrations.

Adejumo cited the Agro-Cargo Airport, Ogun Free Trade Zone, oil exploration efforts and the proposed deep seaport project among initiatives the alliance believes are significant to the state’s development.

The alliance said it would continue its community empowerment programmes while mobilising grassroots support for APC candidates ahead of the 2027 elections.

The group announced an ambition to mobilise 100,000 votes for APC candidates across the state at the various levels of the 2027 elections.

Among those present at the briefing were the alliance’s Senatorial Leader, Hon. Gbenga Adewale; Hon. Joseph Akintunde of Ogun West; Alhaji Adekunle Saula of Ogun East; Hon. Kehinde of Ijebu North; and Hon. Toyin Kajogbola of Abeokuta North.

The Director-General of the movement, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Iziak Salako, was also acknowledged at the event.

The alliance said it would remain open to members of different political parties willing to join its campaign for YAYI, President Tinubu and other APC candidates in the 2027 elections.
