The Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM) has demonstrated its growing political influence and grassroots mobilisation capacity in Ogun State following a mega rally held at the Otunba Dipo Dina International Stadium, Ijebu-Ode, Ogun East Senatorial District.
The rally, which attracted thousands of party faithful, political stakeholders, artisans, students, youths and supporters, was described by the movement as a major step towards consolidating its political structures and strengthening its readiness for the 2027 general elections.
According to the organisers, more than 30,000 supporters participated in the gathering, which was the culmination of months of strategic planning, mobilisation and coordination across Ogun East.
The event also provided an opportunity for the inauguration of YPM’s Artisan, Women, Students and Youth wings, underscoring the movement’s commitment to building an inclusive grassroots political structure.
Among the prominent personalities who attended were Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun; the APC governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi; his deputy governorship running mate, Mrs Abiodun Balogun; APC State Chairman, Chief Yemi Sanusi; and former Senator Olalekan Mustapha, alongside other political leaders and stakeholders.
The rally also featured performances by popular Fuji musicians, including King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal (K1 De Ultimate) and Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, adding entertainment to the political gathering.
Speaking at the event, YPM Convener, Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde, said the mega rally was not merely organised to demonstrate the movement’s numerical strength but also to reaffirm its commitment to supporting all APC candidates across Ogun East in the 2027 elections.
Akintunde explained that the gathering was designed to reassure party candidates of YPM’s determination to mobilise support at the grassroots and contribute meaningfully to the party’s electoral success.
He disclosed that similar mobilisation programmes were being planned for Ogun Central and Ogun West Senatorial Districts before the end of the year.
He also highlighted the movement’s forthcoming programmes, particularly its proposed mega empowerment initiative, as part of efforts to sustain engagement with its growing membership.
The Convener’s remarks came against the background of YPM’s organisational evolution, which began with its involvement in the Dapo Abiodun Continuity Agenda (DACA), progressed through the Omoluabi Movement and subsequently transformed into the Yayi Progressives Movement.
Since the transition, the organisation has undertaken several political mobilisation activities, including its inauguration at Ake Palace in Abeokuta and a separate programme that brought together 10,000 youths and students in the state capital.
The movement also disclosed that it currently has a documented membership base of 90,600, describing the Ogun East rally’s reported attendance as evidence of its expanding grassroots network.
Governor Dapo Abiodun, in his remarks, commended the YPM leadership, particularly its Convener, Armstrong ’Tope Akintunde, for the successful organisation of the rally.
The governor expressed confidence in the movement’s mobilisation capacity and its ability to support the APC and its candidates ahead of the forthcoming elections.
Political observers note that the establishment of dedicated wings for artisans, women, students and youths could provide the movement with additional platforms for grassroots participation and political engagement.
However, beyond the impressive turnout and entertainment that characterised the rally, YPM’s major challenge will be sustaining the momentum, strengthening its structures across the state and translating its mobilisation claims into measurable electoral support.
With the 2027 general elections approaching, the Ogun East mega rally represents another significant milestone in YPM’s ambition to establish itself as a formidable political support organisation in Ogun State.
The planned mobilisation programmes in Ogun Central and Ogun West will further test the movement’s capacity to extend its influence beyond Ogun East and consolidate its presence across the three senatorial districts.
