House of Assembly candidate under the Africa Democratic Congress (ADC) for Remo State Constituency, Hon. Olaide Olumade, has reaffirmed his commitment to youth empowerment, employment creation, and economic opportunities for young people during a visit to her alma mater, Gateway Polytechnic.
Olumade, who returned to the institution where she began her academic journey, said her visit was driven by a desire to give back to the community that played a significant role in shaping her life and career.
Addressing students and stakeholders, the ADC candidate emphasized the need to create sustainable pathways for employment and financial independence for young Nigerians, noting that education should serve as a gateway to economic empowerment rather than ending with the acquisition of certificates.
According to her, many graduates leave school only to face uncertainty about their future, a situation she described as unacceptable in a society seeking progress and development.
“Every student deserves access to decent employment opportunities, financial security, and a future filled with possibilities. Education should not end with a certificate; it should open the door to economic empowerment,” Olumade stated.
She lamented the growing concerns among graduates over limited job opportunities, stressing that young people should be able to focus on developing their talents, pursuing their ambitions, and contributing meaningfully to society without constant fear about their economic future.
The Remo State Constituency hopeful further called on alumni, community leaders, private sector stakeholders, and government institutions to work together in creating opportunities for students through mentorship, skills development initiatives, and career support programmes.
“As alumni, leaders, and stakeholders, we have a responsibility to create opportunities, provide mentorship, and build systems that connect students with meaningful careers and sustainable sources of income,” she said.
Hon Olumade noted that giving back to educational institutions should go beyond financial donations, adding that investing in people and creating opportunities for growth remain the most impactful ways of supporting future generations.
She described his return to Gateway Polytechnic as a reminder of the importance of community service and the need to ensure that today’s students are better positioned to succeed than previous generations.
The ADC candidate concluded by expressing optimism about the future of Nigerian youths, stressing that students of Gateway Polytechnic and young people across Remo State deserve a future defined by hope, opportunity, and financial independence.
