The Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN) Oshodi-Isolo chapter have charged their members to be innovative and accurate in the discharge of their duties.
This was made known yesterday at a 2 day scientific workshop organized by the association in Lagos.
The keynote speaker, Dr Francisca Nwaokorie said innovation quality are mandatory in today’s Medical Laboratory practice.
Dr Nwaokorie challenged members to be exceptional in the practice and business. She said the economic recession should not be an excuse not to deliver quality services.

She added that,”quality of service and accuracy of medical results, an hallmark of science laboratory practice. To achieve the highest level of accuracy, you must use quality management system, quality indicator that is evidence based and feasible.”
Dr Nwaokorie advised that training of quality service is a major criteria to have a good Laboratory practice.

She assured that though funding had been a major challenge in quality service, but the public will pay when they are sure of quality and standard service.
In another presentation, Mr Abiodun Adetona Hamzat, CEO of Cornerstone Medical Diagnostic Limited spoke on “ Laboratory Practice: My Business,My Practice.”
Mr Hamzat said the cause of failure in medical laboratory practice include poor location, lack of order, death of founder of business, economy of the nation,government policies and lack of strong vision.

He advised that for anyone to succeed in business,”you must have a mentor, you must have good contacts/ network, and must belong to associations. You must not be scared of competition because it brings out the best in you, and very good for business.”
Mr Hamzat also advised members to look beyond the laboratory benches as he mentioned various business opportunities in the medical and public health business.
