… don’t drag Gov Abiodun into internal crisis of the institution-MAPOLY Management
The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics ASUP has called on Governor Dapo Abiodun to urgently constitute members of Governing Council,pay salaries and appoint substantive Rector for the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic MAPOLY, Abeokuta Ogun State to avoid fresh crisis in the Institution.
Chairman of ASUP branch in the Polytechnic, Comrade Babatunde Osifalujo who made the call today in Abeokuta, also sought quick Intervention of the governor in ensuring payment of November and December salaries of workers to enable them celebrate during this festive period.
ASUP accused Prince Abiodun administration of delaying the constitution of the council, appointing substantive Rector, domesticate New Polytechnic Act, contrary to the agreement reached with State Government last year.
In a contrary view,the public relation officer of the institution,Mr Oluyemi Ajibola has asked members of the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP), to stop dragging Governor Dapo Abiodun into Internal crisis of the Institution and externalizing such issues affecting it in the media.
He said such action was targeted at embarrassing the governor and put the image of the State Government in bad light.
Mr Ajibola blamed the delay in the payment of the salaries for November and December on late release of admission for the fresh admission seekers by Joint Admission Matriculation Board JAMB.
He added that state government is not collecting revenue from the Polytechnic which makes the institution self-dependent.
ASUP is also worried over the delay in staff promotion and appointments as well as implementation of the new minimum wage in the institution and the implementation of the union’s resolution matters involving pensions,entitlement and plight of MAPOLY Staff retirees and non-remittance of Union outstanding cheque-off dues, more importantly when the Union had kept to its own side of the bargain.
“While we thought of giving time out to His Excellency on those matters, two years and six months is more than enough for any government to have resolved such fundamental issues. We therefore urge the governor to attend to these issue without further delay”, the union urged.
