The political tension of Ward 9 in Abeokuta North Local Government on the forthcoming local government poll is high. The atmosphere is due to a development among members of All Progress Congress APC as leaders refused to make any pronouncement on councillorship candidate.

The tension, according to our correspondent became tensed on Friday, the 21st of May, 2021 when an aspirants took to social media to declared his emergence as consensus candidate, thereby congratulating himself.

We reported earlier that leaders in other Local Governments across Ogun State have been making pronouncements on party candidates ahead of the July Local council elections.

It was gathered, that as at Thursday morning, the 20th of May, 2021, APC leaders and screening committee at the ward, had during a meeting, directed the two prefered candidates – Hon. Ibraheem OGUNKUNLE and Hon. Moruff SALAUDEEN, to emback on dialogue and come up with decision on who will stepdown for who. They were given 24 hours for the task.

Things took another dimension, when one among the leaders reported decided to pick Hon. Moruff and announced him as the consensus candidate for councillorship race without the knowledge of others.

As at the time of this report, no official report has been made by the party leaders to that effect.

One of the party leaders who spoke on condition of annonimity said, “the candidate parading himself as the party’s prefared candidate, does that at his own peril, as the leaders are yet to pronounce any candidate and it is practically beyond the capacity of single leader to make pronouncement “

Speaking further, he said “if i were members, i will rather ignore the self-acclaimed candidate till official pronouncement is made.

He however call for calm till further notice, when concerned authority will wage into the matter.
