The Labour Party House of Representatives candidate in Abeokuta South Federal Constituency in the 2023 election, Hon Tolulope Philips, has officially defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
Hon Philips was received by the leadership of the PDP, including the party’s former governorship candidate in the last election, Hon. Ladi Adebutu in a large gathering at the party secretariat in Abeokuta, the Ogun state capital on Tuesday.
Hon Philips, who defected alongside hundreds of his party loyalists, disclosed that he joined the party in order to join forces with Adebutu in his move to liberate the state.
Speaking to Journalists at the well-attended ceremony, he stated that he regretted that had wasted his time in the Labour Party, lamenting that his time in the party yielded no desired results.
The grassroot politician however expressed optimism about his chances in the 2027 election on the platform of the PDP.
“I realized that my time in the Labour Party was not yielding the desired results. I am hopeful that my move to the PDP will bring about the change I desire.
“I am thrilled to be joining the PDP family. I am confident that this is the right decision for me and my supporters. I am grateful to my loyal supporters who have followed me to the PDP. I promise to work tirelessly to ensure that their trust in me is not misplaced, he said.
“I am confident that in 2027, PDP will be victorious in the elections. I am eager to get started and make a meaningful impact in the lives of my constituents.
The PDP leader who received Philips presented him with the party flags and a membership card to formalise his membership.
Hon. Ladi Adebutu, while welcoming the former LP Rep candidate noted that the PDP was more united than before and its positioned to win the 2027.
Adebutu insisted that the atrocity performed by the APC in the last election must not repeat itself, thus, he invited Philips to join the PDP in fighting for the liberation of Ogun state.
His words “ We will run PDP together in love till we get the goal. Advises Philips to stop wasting his money and join the PDP for progress. Imagine the number of votes he wasted in that election?.
“We are delighted to have Tolulope Philips join our party. We are confident that PDP will emerge victorious in the 2027 election,” he said.
