The Senior Special Assistant to the Ogun State Governor on Information Technology, Hon. Akeem Oluseye, has been installed as the Bashorun of Ika Township, Gbagura, Abeokuta.
Oluseye, a grassroots politician and philanthropist, was installed at a colourful ceremony held at the weekend, which attracted sons and daughters of Gbagura, traditional leaders, politicians and other prominent personalities from Ogun State and beyond.
The new Bashorun was celebrated for his contributions to the development of Gbagura and Abeokuta North, particularly through his political engagement, community service and philanthropic activities.
The Bashorun of Ika title is deeply rooted in the historical and traditional heritage of Ika Township, one of the foundational sections of the Gbagura quarter of Abeokuta.
Ika is a prominent township within the Gbagura Federation and has produced several notable personalities whose contributions have helped shape the development, history and identity of the community.
The installation therefore served not only as a celebration of Oluseye’s accomplishments but also as a reaffirmation of the cultural heritage and unity of the Gbagura people.
The ceremony brought together a cross-section of Gbagura sons and daughters, alongside prominent political figures, community leaders and other dignitaries who gathered to honour the new traditional title holder.
Oluseye’s emergence also evokes the history of distinguished personalities associated with the Bashorun institution in Egbaland.
One of the most prominent modern holders of the Bashorun of Egbaland title was the late Chief M.K.O. Abiola, GCFR, a proud son of Gbagura who became a symbol of Gbagura excellence and identity during his lifetime.
The installation of Oluseye is expected to further strengthen his connection with the traditional institution and community development efforts in Gbagura, while placing greater responsibility on him to contribute to the growth and welfare of Ika Township and its people.
