The joint action committee of Senior Staff Association of Nigeria Polytechnic and Non-Academic Staff Union of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta Ogun state have decried the ill treatment of members by the management of the institution.
This was made known today at a press conference in Abeokuta the state capital, calling on the state government to honour several agreement made in the past concerning the welfare and prompt payment of their salaries.
The group spoke person, Comrade Lekan Dada who is the Acting Chairman of SSANIP said the several promises were made and non was fulfilled.
He mentioned that, inability of the government to constitute a Governing Council, appoint a substantive Rector,lack of promotion for more than two years,non implementation of payment of minimum wage are various issues putting the members in a very sorry state.
He added that,”we had a meeting with the state Commissioner for Education in February and the institution was directed to pay all our outstanding dues,but till date it was not paid. The state government have implemented the payment of minimum wage in civil service since October 2020,but refused to apply it to us. The government also refused to implement the 5% Peculiar Allowance to Non-Teaching Staffs. This is expected to be paid to non- teaching staff of Polytechnic, as the academic staff are enjoying 7% but Management has refused to yield to our request for payment. This is considered as injustice and lack of fairness.”
The group disclosed that the management of the institution have refused to pay check-up dues, which means members have not received their full salaries for more than 2years.
It is also alleged that the management have not been remitting pension deduction to the Pension Fund Administration for years which deflates the hope of prospective pensioners.
The group conderned in totality the attitude of the management of not giving priority to payment of staff salary, as November and December salaries could not be paid as students are yet to pay school fees.
