Today’s governorship and house of assembly election in Ogun state witnessed a relatively low turnout compared to the presidential election three weeks ago, as it was marred with various irregularities.
Our correspondence who monitored the election at Ogun Central of the state said the turn out of voters was very low especially within Abeokuta metropolis.
He said the electoral officers were on ground as at 7.30am, and the BVAS worked well with not complain. He added that security agencies were on ground as the voters organized themselves in a peaceful manner.
Some polling units visited witnessed intimidation of voters by some party agents, which as a result led to voters staying away from the polling station.
Our correspondence categorically said in ward 13 unit 12 of Abeokuta South 11, a political thug on mask, armed with an axe took the ballot box and destroyed it with the voting materials. One of the voters who also is a candidate of Action Alliance (AA), Hon Adeyemi Solomon Oluwaseyifunmi said the polling unit was a strong hold of the opposition party, and the disruption was orchestrated under the ruling party.
Some other areas also witness vote buying by some party agents. ranging from 1500 to 10,000 through a credit card.
A Similar occurrence was also recorded at Ososa, Ijebu Ode local government, when thugs took away the ballot box shooting into the air.
As at the time of filing this report, the collation of results have been suspended till tomorrow morning.
