Abeokuta, Ogun State – On July 18, 2025, the Ogun State Police Command achieved a major breakthrough in its fight against violent crime, successfully rescuing three kidnapped individuals in Ajebo, under the Owode-Egba Division. The operation, conducted by the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, underscores the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and maintaining a zero-tolerance stance against kidnapping.The incident began on July 16, 2025, when the abduction of three individuals was reported. Following expert intelligence and surveillance, police operatives launched a tactical operation, rescuing the victims unharmed at approximately 9:00 PM on July 18. The operation met resistance as the kidnappers engaged the police in a gun battle. Two suspects were fatally wounded during the exchange, while others fled into the forest with gunshot injuries.At the scene, police recovered significant evidence, including one AK-47 rifle (Breech No. 5005584) loaded with 139 rounds of 5.6mm ammunition, one magazine, a cutlass, a chain and padlock believed to have been used to restrain the victims, ₦1,200,035 in cash suspected to be proceeds of crime, and several mobile phones. The recovered items are under investigation as the police continue their pursuit of the remaining suspects.Commissioner of Police, CP Lanre Ogunlowo Ph.D, praised the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for their swift and tactical response. “This operation reflects our resolve to combat kidnapping and protect the people of Ogun State,” he stated.
