Teachers in Ogun State have been encouraged to take advantage of the Federal Government’s newly launched initiative aimed at equipping educators nationwide with subsidised mobile devices and free data access to boost digital learning and classroom delivery.
The Special Assistant to the Ogun State Governor on Information Technology, Hon. Akeem Oluseye, made the call while speaking with journalists at the Ogun Tech Hub, Kobape Road, Abeokuta, on Monday.
Oluseye described the initiative as a golden opportunity for teachers to enhance their digital capacity, improve teaching efficiency, and align with global standards in education technology.
“I want to urge our teachers to key into the Federal Government’s subsidised mobile device and free data scheme. It’s an opportunity to sharpen their digital skills and make teaching more effective,” he said.
He added that registration is ongoing at the Ogun Tech Hub for a state-backed training programme tagged “EDUSYSTEM: NEXT GEN”, designed to provide educators with access to a constantly updated global library of teaching and professional resources.
“This programme will help teachers harness the full potential of technology in the classroom and keep them ahead in the evolving digital learning ecosystem,” Oluseye noted.
The Federal Government’s initiative—unveiled last Thursday by the Federal Ministry of Education—is being implemented in partnership with the UK-funded Partnership for Learning for All in Nigeria (PLANE) under the Education Public-Private Partnership (ePPP) framework.
The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, who launched the scheme at the Ministerial Roundtable on Zero-Rated Data and Devices for Nigerian Teachers, described it as a transformative step toward building a digitally competent teaching workforce.
He explained that the programme’s first phase will benefit 8,000 teachers across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones between December 2025 and July 2026, providing access to the government’s eLearn platform and other accredited digital resources—at no cost—through partnerships with telecommunications companies offering zero-rated data access.
Dr. Alausa also inaugurated the Ministerial Implementation Committee on the ePPP, comprising representatives from the Federal Ministry of Education, UBEC, TRCN, telecom firms, and EdTech platforms. The committee is tasked with delivering a cost framework, a verified list of participants, and an impact report ahead of the nationwide scale-up in mid-2026.
Oluseye reaffirmed Ogun State’s readiness to support the programme and ensure teachers in the state are among the early beneficiaries, saying the initiative aligns perfectly with Governor Dapo Abiodun’s vision of a digitally driven education system.
