– The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three suspects allegedly responsible for the gruesome murder of a prominent resident, Madam Olakitan Oyesiku, and her security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, following a forensic investigation that included the analysis of a handwritten note left at the crime scene.
Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, disclosed the breakthrough on Thursday during a press briefing at the Ogun State Police Command Headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta.
According to the police commissioner, the tragic incident came to light on June 21, 2026, when officers at the Owode-Egba Police Station received a report about suspicious circumstances at Madam Oyesiku’s residence. The front door of the house had been partially damaged, while the security house within the compound was locked.
Detectives who responded to the scene discovered the lifeless body of the security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, 38, inside the security post. Madam Oyesiku was found dead in a pool of blood in the living room of the main building.
Initial investigations revealed that the deceased woman’s Lexus RX 330 SUV was missing, raising suspicions of a robbery-murder operation.
The command immediately launched a comprehensive investigation involving intelligence gathering, technical tracking and forensic analysis. On June 22, detectives successfully traced and recovered the stolen Lexus RX 330 in the Onikolobo area of Ogun State.
Although the vehicle’s ignition key and number plates had been removed, investigators found the registration plate hidden beneath one of the seats, enabling them to positively identify the vehicle as belonging to the deceased.
CP Ojajuni said one of the most significant breakthroughs in the investigation came from a handwritten note allegedly left behind by the perpetrators. The note was subjected to forensic examination, generating critical leads that helped detectives identify and track down the suspects.
The principal suspect, 22-year-old Sodeinde Olajuwon Philip, was arrested on June 24 at a construction site in Ibara GRA, Abeokuta, where he was working as a labourer.
Subsequent operations led to the arrest of two alleged accomplices – Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27, a security guard, and Sobu Obafunsho, 36, a bricklayer.
During interrogation, Sodeinde reportedly confessed to participating in the killings and admitted recruiting the two other suspects for the operation.
According to police findings, Sodeinde had previously worked as a security guard for Madam Oyesiku and harboured grievances against her. He allegedly told investigators that the attack was planned to “teach her a lesson.”
Police said the suspects carried out the attack on June 20, 2026. They allegedly overpowered the security guard, used him to gain access to the residence, attacked Madam Oyesiku and later killed the guard before fleeing with the victim’s vehicle.
Further searches conducted at locations linked to the suspects led to the recovery of several exhibits, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, a plank, a black pen and other items believed to be connected to the crime.
The Commissioner of Police stressed that despite the confessional statements and evidence recovered, all suspects remain entitled to due process under the law.
He added that investigations are continuing to consolidate available evidence and ensure the diligent prosecution of everyone connected with the crime.
“The Ogun State Police Command remains committed to ensuring that justice is served and that all persons connected with this heinous crime are brought to book,” Ojajuni stated.
The shocking double murder has generated widespread concern across Ogun State, with residents commending the police for the swift arrest of the suspects and the recovery of key evidence in the case.
