Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has described the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate in the just-concluded Remo Federal Constituency by-election, Hon. Adesola Elegbeji, as a validation of his administration’s transformational governance and infrastructural strides across the state.
Speaking on Sunday in Iperu during a press conference to celebrate the party’s triumph, the governor said the outcome of the election was a clear referendum on his government’s performance and a demonstration of the people’s confidence in the APC. He noted that despite attempts by “unscrupulous elements” to harass, intimidate, and induce voters, the electorate overwhelmingly chose the ruling party.
Governor Abiodun maintained that the result reaffirmed the popularity of his administration and aligned with the broader successes of President Bola Tinubu’s governance in the past two years. He said: “Our administration has been deliberate and intentional in improving lives and transforming towns and cities through aggressive infrastructural development. This victory underscores those achievements and strengthens our resolve to ensure no part of Ogun State is left behind.”
The governor also linked the electoral success with recent milestones in the state, including the approval granted by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) for the Gateway International Airport to commence commercial operations. “Without a doubt, this is a monumental achievement that will leave a lasting imprint on the history of our state. Ogun State is now connected to the rest of the world,” he added.
While congratulating Hon. Elegbeji on her victory, Abiodun charged her to serve with humility and diligence, noting that the mandate must be used to advance the vision of the Renewed Hope agenda. He expressed confidence that the APC’s latest win foreshadows greater victories in the 2027 general elections.
In her acceptance remarks, Hon. Elegbeji thanked the electorate for their support, pledging to prioritise women and youth empowerment, rural integration, and constituency projects that would directly impact lives across the three local government areas of the constituency.
The governor also appreciated party leaders, stakeholders, security agencies, INEC officials, and traditional and religious institutions for their roles in ensuring a peaceful and credible election.
