…look elsewhere to increase IGR
The Akinriyuwa of Owu Kingdom and founder of Olumide &Stephanie Aderinokun Foundation, Chief Olumide Aderinokun has told Gov. Dapo Abiodun of Ogun state not to use the forthcoming local government election as an avenue to increase the Internally Generated Revenue of the state, advising Gov. Dapo to look elsewhere for revenue collection.
The Real Estste mogul made this known in Abeokuta on Thursday morning through a release from his media office.
“Gov. Abiodun and his team should look elsewhere for revenue collection and not through the local government election. The amount charged for nomination forms is barbaric. Gov. Abiodun is making democracy expensive by charging 200, 000 and 100, 000 respectively for Chairmanship and Councillorship candidates,” Chief Aderinokun said.
“The All Progressives Congress (APC) is trying to disenfranchise candidates from the oposition parties. We are talking about election that will usher in our servant leaders at the grassroots and not State Assembly election. Ogun State Independent Electoral Commision (OGSIEC) is not supposed to be a revenue generation agency.
“The high fee charged by OGSIEC will discourage younger aspirants from participating in the election.”
The OGSIEC chairman, Babatunde Osibodu during an engagement with leaders of political parties and members of the civil society in Abeokuta, earlier in the week announced the N200,000 and N100,000 respectively for Chairmanship and councilorship aspirants while it is free for women contesting for same post.
The election is scheduled to hold on Saturday 24 July, 2021 in over four thousand electoral units across the 20 local government areas of the state.
