We are winning war against drug abuse with noticeable reduction-Ogun NDLEA Commander

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Ogun State command said the war against drug abuse have recorded a noticeable reduction.

This was disclosed during the week by the state Commander,Ishaku Yusuf Kwajafa at the command headquarters in Abeokuta to mark this year United Nation International Day Against Drug Abuse.

Kwajafa said with the achievements of the command within six months, it showed a noticeable reduction which implied that the agency is winning the war against drug abuse.

He highlighted some of the achievements in areas of arrest of suspects, seizure of illicit drugs, prosecution,counseling of drug dependent persons and enlightenment of the public.

He also explained that ,”number of arrested male suspects 80, female suspects 19,seized cannabis sativa 7719.03kg,Tramadol 18,752 tablets, Diazepam 55,755 tablets, Rohypnol 2910 tablets, Methamphetamine 314.9g, Codeine 17.3litre and 131 tablets, Exol 3218 tablets,Cocaine 152g, Heroin 8g.”

Kwajafa also added that the agency was able to have 32 clients counseled on drug related matters, and 21 convictions.

The Assistant State Director,Mrs Ekwu Ucheria Ifoma noted that the agency have taken the campaign against drug abuse to the nooks and crannies of the state, especially in secondary schools in rural communities.She said some of the drugs in question are for medical purpose, but taking outside the prescribed dosage, turn it to abuse. 

She called on the media, traditional leaders, community leaders to support the agency in the campaign against drug abuse to have a sane society.
