The Nigeria Customs Service, Ogun state Command have disclosed that within the period of May/June this year, goods that worth N1.29billion were seized.
This was disclosed yesterday by the Controller,Ogun Area 1 Command, Bamidele Makinde while briefing journalists at Idiroko Border of the state.
Controller Makinde said trucks of foreign parboiled rice, weighing 50kg each and a petroleum tanker laden with adulterated diesel were among the list of seizures recorded by the Ogun Area 1 Command of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Idiroko, between the month of May and 25th of June, 2022.
The command also intercepted 1,100packets of Tramadol, 23,400 pairs of footwear,Used footwear, Used tires, cartons of foreign wine , 289 cartons of tomato paste, several sacks and wraps of weeds, suspected to be Cannabis Sativa among other contraband goods.
Controller Makinde disclosed that two trucks conveying 882 bags of the foreign parboiled rice were seized right inside Abeokuta metropolis, while on transit.
The Controller as well stressed that, his operatives acted under the Section 46 and 169 of the Customs and Excise Management Act (CEMA), Cap “C45” of the Law of Federation of Nigeria to effect the seizures.
He also disclosed that the adulterated diesel product was intercepted along the Sagamu – Ijebu Ode expressway, while the bunkerer absconded upon sighting the command’s operatives.
Controller Makinde as usual, handed all the narcotics intercepted to the Controller of Narcotics, Archie-Abia Ibinabo, who led other officials of the National Drugs Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) from the Idiroko Special Area Command to the NCS warehouse where the contrabands were being kept.
