As political activity begins to intensify ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections, the Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM) has positioned itself as a grassroots platform promoting unity, progressive governance and the “Itesiwaju Agenda” associated with Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi.

The movement, which operates as a political support group aligned with the All Progressives Congress (APC), says its focus is on civic participation, leadership development and community engagement across Ogun State. It aims to mobilise support for Senator Adeola and other APC candidates while advancing what it describes as a people-oriented development agenda.

YPM places particular emphasis on involving young people, students, artisans and other community groups. Its stated goals include promoting inclusive governance, fostering civic responsibility and nurturing a new generation of leaders committed to public service, in line with the senator’s Itesiwaju Agenda.

The group says it has set up operational structures in all 20 local government areas of Ogun State to coordinate political activities, conduct community outreach and engage residents. It also points to empowerment programmes and other community-based initiatives as part of efforts to build grassroots relationships. Independent verification of the scale, reach and measurable outcomes of those programmes has not yet been established.

Under the leadership of Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde and other stakeholders, YPM continues to organise activities around its core objectives. Supporters describe the movement’s growth as the result of sustained mobilisation and internal coordination aimed at broadening political participation.

Beyond electoral work, the movement presents an ambition to build an organisational and ideological framework rooted in transparency, accountability and sustainable development. Its leadership frames these principles as central to its vision for Ogun State and the country.

Political observers note that the effectiveness of such structures will ultimately depend on the ability to deliver measurable community benefits, maintain broad engagement and address residents’ concerns. Issues such as education, healthcare, employment, infrastructure, agriculture and opportunities for young people remain key benchmarks against which any development agenda will be judged.

As the 2027 electoral cycle draws closer, YPM is increasingly framing its message around unity, inclusion and the Itesiwaju Agenda, seeking to align these ideas with Senator Adeola’s political aspirations. The movement is calling on eligible voters and other stakeholders to identify with its vision for Ogun State.

Whether that message translates into lasting support will hinge on the strength of its grassroots work, the clarity of its policy proposals and its capacity to show how stated ideals become tangible results for residents. For now, the Yayi Progressives Movement is placing unity, leadership development and the Itesiwaju Agenda at the centre of its political identity as a support platform within the APC.
