The Yayi Progressives Movement (YPM) has stepped up its grassroots push in Ogun State, inaugurating a students’ wing and formally admitting the ‘No Women, No Nation’ forum in a joint gathering held in Abeokuta on Saturday.
Convener Armstrong ‘Tope Akintunde announced the twin developments as part of intensified mobilisation ahead of the 2027 general elections. He said the movement is deliberately bringing eligible young voters into its fold, describing students as a critical part of society and the nation’s future.
“This is another testament to our mobilisation efforts in the Yayi Progressives Movement. I can confidently declare that the movement can now boast of 55,000 members across the state,” Akintunde said. He thanked apex leaders, the state executive committee, and local government and ward coordinators for their work in expanding the group.
Akintunde welcomed the ‘No Women, No Nation’ forum, which claims about 4,000 members, as further evidence of the movement’s growing strength on the ground. He charged both the newly inaugurated students and the women’s group to intensify grassroots work in support of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola (Yayi) and other All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates from the presidential race down to the state House of Assembly.
Speaking for the apex body, Co-Convener Hon. Kehinde Odeneye praised the students and the women’s forum for joining YPM, saying the development showed that the movement’s community engagement is yielding results.
The new students’ wing is led by Comrade Dotun Opaleye, who said the group is mobilising across tertiary institutions in Ogun State with a target of 5,000 student members. “It is my joy that we have a slot in this large political support group,” Opaleye said. He noted that the wing is already making progress toward its goal and particularly targeting students interested in APC activities. Opaleye also thanked YPM leadership for supporting the recent campus voter registration exercise, describing it as proof of the movement’s commitment to young people.
Mrs. Ogunsanya Olusola, a leader of the ‘No Women, No Nation’ forum, used the occasion to decorate Akintunde as the group’s new patron and expressed confidence in his leadership of the broader APC push in the state.
YPM Board of Leaders Chairman Chief Fajimi also thanked members and supporters, singling out the recent solidarity trek organised by the movement’s students’ and youth forums as an unprecedented show of strength in Ogun’s political history.
With the students’ wing now formally launched and a sizeable women’s forum absorbed, YPM is positioning itself as a major grassroots player in the state as the 2027 contests draw closer.
