Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun has assured the State workers that his administration would honour all promises and agreements reached with them since inception.
Governor Abiodun gave the assurance in his office at the swearing-in of the new Head of Service, Alhaja Selimot Ottun; Hon. Olugbenga Dairo, Commissioner for Transportation, Arc. Abiodun Fari-Arole, Special Adviser and Managing Director, Ogun State Property and Investment Corporation (OPIC) and Dr. Lateef Lawal, Special Adviser to the Governor on Health.
Gov Abiodun described the Public Service as a veritable tools for realising his administration’s “Building our Future Together Agenda”, saying, “this opportunity to reassure all the great work is of Ogun State that ours is not an administration that reneges on its promises. We will fulfill all promises made, and we will honour all agreements we have with our workers.
“In doing this, and as we continue to ensure the provision of adequate and effective working tools for our Public Service, we shall see to the fact that working environment is friendly enough to guarantee optimal productivity”, the Governor pledged.
He said government, in the last one year has opened up more rooms for Public and Civil Servants to get to the peak of their career, just has welfare programmes in the area of affordable housing at AA Degun phase two at Laderin and Prince Court Worker Estate at Kemta, Idi-Aba has been put in place for the State Workers.
The Governor who acknowledged the importance of the Workers in realising the goals of his administration, however, noted that promotion and Career appointments would henceforth be based on merit, just has he promised that government was committed at placing the public service on a sound pedestal to perform its statutory roles to the citizens of the State.
He said the appointees were chosen among those who were equally qualified and have shown and shared the administration’s commitment to working for the people of the State, pointing out that their resume exemplify the standard of excellence which the State was noted for.
“Today, we are witnessing another symbolic representation of our administration’s commitment towards providing good governance based on fairness, inclusiveness, equity and justice. I most also say that in all that we do for over a year now, we have always observed due process, transparency and wide consultation. The appointment of Alhaja Selimot Olapeju OTTUN as the new Head of Service, is therefore a product of thoroughness, meritorious service, proven managerial credentials and capacity.
While congratulating the new Head of Service for being found worthy of the appointment, Prince Abiodun reminded her that the appointment came around a time in the development process and improving on the fortune of the State, urging her to surpass the performance of her predecessors.
“You are coming at a time that the public service most demonstrate the right attitude to resuscitate the ailing economy as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic on the global economy which Nigeria, nay Ogun State is not immune. In this direction also, the public service will have to exhibit the positive attitude that will engender a symbiotic Public Private Partnership for the good of our dear State and the people. The kind of leadership you provide as the Head of Service will go along way towards the successful realization of that goal”, the Governor stated.
He promised conducive environment and genuine intensions directed at making life more prosperous for the people, saying that the administration has made it possible through, ” the Building our Future Together Agenda, to reposition all areas and sectors in the State economy, for sustainable development.
Prince Abiodun urged the new appointees to bring their wealth of experience to bear in their service to Ogun State, as their service would go along way in taking the State to the next level.
Responding on behalf other appointees, the new Head of Service, Alhaja Selimot Ottun, thanked the Governor for the confidence reposed in her, pledging that the State workforce would reciprocate government’s friendly postures by being committed, dedicated and hardworking in their services to the people of the State.
The occasion was witnessed by former Heads of Service: Chief Dipo Odulate, Princess Iyabo Odulate, Mrs. Modupe Adekunle, Elder Sola Adeyemi, Mr. Abayomi Sobande, Engr. Lanre Bisiriyu and the immediate past Head of Service, Mrs. Amope Chokor.
