Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs has commended the
Transition Committee Chairmen of Ado-Odo/Ota, Ifo and Ewekoro Local Government Councils’ developmental strides describing it as right steps towards fostering and promoting good governance.
The Chairman of the Committee, Hon. Akeem Balogun, who gave the commendation while leading other members on a budget assessment visit to the Councils to appraise their records between August and October, 2020 lauded the Chairmen for putting in place strategies towards improving revenue and the implementation of people-oriented projects within the period under review.
Balogun in company of other lawmakers, tasked the council Chairmen to further sensitize residents on tax compliance and revenue payment to shore up their revenue for the delivery of democratic dividends to the people.
In his submission, the Chairman, Ado-Odo/Ota Transition Committee, Mr. Lawal Wasiu, noted that the council manages 44 Primary Health Care Centres, stating that N553.8m was recorded as revenue and grant, while N7.3m was expended on capital projects.
On his part, the Transition Chairman, Ifo Local Government Council, Fola Salami itemized projects carried out to include a block of three classrooms at Ishasi, rehabilitation of Primary Health Care Centre at Maidan amongst others, while disclosing that the council recorded N592.4m as revenue and grant, with N10.1m expended on capital projects.
Also speaking, the Transition Committee Chairman, Ewekoro local government council, Mr. Emmanuel Babayemi, said the council in the period under review spent a total of N6.7m on capital projects, with N366.9m was put forward as revenue and grant from government.
The three Transition Chairmen appealed for the formulation of a sustainable revenue sharing formula between the council and State, with a view to ensuring the councils’ viability in service delivery.
