President Muhammadu Buhari has condermed the interference of the National Assembly on the Federal Government 774000 job programme. The president has asked Festus Keyamo, Minister of State for Labour and Employment, to proceed with the execution of the special public works progamme.
We reported earlier that Mr Keyamo had threatened to pull out of the program if the National Assembly refused to allow him to carry out his constitutional responsibility .
Keyamo who had earlier inaugurated the committees made up of 20 people in each state which will be in charge of engaging 774,000 citizens in the special works programme, was hijacked by the legislature and given to the NDE.
The minister met with the president and narrated his encounter with the national assembly over the programme, and his constitutional position and liberty to over see the programme. He was able to make the presidency see reason why the programme should be carried out with the constituted committee for transparency and fairness.
President Buhari ordered the minister to proceed with the execution of the programme and to ensure it is conducted “strictly according to existing laws”.
He also asked the director-general of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) to halt any alternative plan on the programme with the national assembly committee.
