Against prediction of flood resulting from heavy downpour,by the Nigeria Metrology Agency NIMET,the Ogun state government has appealed to residents in flood plains and waterways areas to relocate to safer grounds.
Commissioner for Environment,Hon Abiodun-Abudu Balogun gave this appeal while addressing media at a press conference held at his oke mosan office.
He said residents living in flood plains and on waterways in some areas of Abeokuta South,Ijebu East,Ifo and Ogunwaterside must relocate to safer grounds for their own safety and to avoid the loss of property.
Hon Abudu-Balogun also mentioned those living in other areas like canals and flood plains area in Lafenwa,Totoro, Ifo ,Ijebu-Ode ,Sagamu to also relocate to avoid the incessant flooding.
He said the state government also used the opportunity to appeal to people not to dump their refuse in canals,waterways and road medians to reduce the impact of the heavy rains ,adding that government will continue to dredge to mitigate flooding.
