Local Government Ex Political Office Holders in Ogun State have called on the Ogun state Governor,Prince Dapo Abiodun Mfr. to put in place machinery to conduct a free and fair local government election.

The call was made through a letter directed to the governor today 8th of July, commending the transition committee executives in various local government that they have performed well.

The coordinator of the group,Hon Jamiu Akanji Keshinro said the success recorded was as a result of support and cooperation from this administration. He said,”this performance was made possible because of the fullest cooperation received from the Governor and the Ministry of local government headed by the experienced one, Hon Afolabi Afuape.”

Hon Keshinro also added that Local Government must be administered by democratically elected representative.

He said the idea of transition committee or any name it is given is just a child of necessity pending the time elections shall be held in order not to create vacuum.

He therefore recommended that,” the State Government should start preparing for local government election now and not later. it is very important for the State Government to set up Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) now and not later. If the electoral body is set up now, it will have enough time to prepare for the election which I suggest should come up on Saturday January 16, 2021 and the swearing in comes up immediately on Monday January 18, 2021. Sunday 17th January 2021 been a weekend would have been the end of the current transition committees if the State Government chooses to give them one year.”

It is observed that the present transition committee will be 6 month on 17th of this month, and due to the Covid 19 pandemic, the state government has not revealed any plan concerning the local government election.
