Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – July 6, 2025

Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has reinforced his administration’s commitment to global economic partnerships, joining President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and top Nigerian officials at a bilateral meeting with Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva in Rio de Janeiro.

The high-level engagement, held on the sidelines of broader diplomatic discussions in Brazil, focused on enhancing Nigeria-Brazil relations in key sectors such as trade, infrastructure, energy, and sustainable development. Ogun State featured prominently in the talks, reflecting its growing economic ties with the South American country.

In the first half of 2025, Ogun State attracted two significant Brazilian investments. In February, a leading Brazilian food processing giant pledged $2.5 billion to support agro-industrial development in the state—a project expected to generate thousands of jobs and further solidify Ogun’s role as Nigeria’s agricultural powerhouse. This was followed by a landmark energy deal in March with Brazil’s fourth-largest power company to develop critical energy infrastructure across the state.

Governor Abiodun described the meeting as a vital opportunity to build on these successes and align with President Tinubu’s “Renewed Hope” agenda.

“This engagement goes beyond diplomacy,” Abiodun said. “It is a strategic push to build partnerships that open up new opportunities in trade, education, infrastructure, and agriculture for the people of Ogun State.”

He emphasized that the state is committed to pursuing international collaborations that deliver tangible benefits to local communities. “We are thinking globally and acting locally—to secure a prosperous future for our people,” he added.

Governor Abiodun’s presence at the talks highlights Ogun State’s rising profile as a preferred destination for foreign investment and a model for how subnational governments can attract global capital through proactive engagement.
